3 Nutrition Hacks for PMS

Do you feel powerless against the hormonal changes that happen when Aunt Flo comes to town?

Nutrition plays an important role in helping reduce symptoms, reduce inflammation, alleviate nutrient deficiencies, and promote proper estrogen metabolism.

It’s time to take the power back by using PRACTICES and HABITS around your nutrition that help you have better periods, more energy, fewer cravings, and feel confident in giving your body what it needs to feel good.

Here are three ways you can use your nutrition practices to make your PMS more manageable and help you have sustained energy, a stable mood, and a clear mind:

BE PREPARED

You know you are more snacky than usual and that is okay. Have fast and nutritious snacks on hand to get ahead of cravings that hit the spot while still offering balance and nutrition. That means it includes at least 2 of 3 macronutrients - protein, fat, and carb, a combo that stabilizes blood sugar and keeps you full longer.

Some of my go-tos are string cheese + clementine, apple + nut butter, carrots + hummus, dark chocolate + berries.

HYDRATE

Being dehydrated is NOT fun. It messes with energy levels, slows metabolism, increases inflammation, causes brain fog, and can lead to water retention and bloating. Ain’t nobody got time for that. If plain ol’ H2O doesn’t do it for you, give herbal teas or infusing fruit a try.

MAKE YOUR OWN MEAL SCHEDULE

There’s no rule that says you have to eat 3 big meals a day and that’s it. Going too long without eating can lead to hanger, energy crashes, and mindless eating. If you want to curb cravings and stabilize blood sugar, try having smaller, more frequent meals and snacks.
