Blood sugar imbalances make it damn near impossible to feel energetic and connected to your body, not to mention, fit into your jeans. If you have body goals and are feeling stuck, let's take a look at your blood sugar balance!
There are no isolated systems in the body. When one system is taxed, it will impact multiple areas of function in the body. Stress is first processed in the brain and then the brain tells the adrenals what to do. Then the adrenals send out messages to the rest of your body - namely your ovaries and thyroid.
When we’re chronically stressed out, the brain lets the body’s know. That’s for sure. We have symptoms. We’re just taught to ignore them or internalize them. But that is something we simply cannot afford to do. Especially not when 70% of white women and 80% of black women will have at least one fibroid by the age of 50.
This conversation is about you having complete autonomy over how you feel in your body. Many of us go on birth control at a young age and we’re just not given information about how it may impact our bodies and minds down the road. It’s important for women to know the side effects of synthetic hormones in order to make educated decisions about reproductive health choices. And it’s important to talk about it so that we aren’t walking in the dark alone.
Progesterone has its hand in many different functions of your bod. It’s not just about ovulation and implantation! It also supports breast health, nervous system health, brain function, and cardiovascular health. Here’s the deal though, progesterone and cortisol will compete for synthesis and if you’re in burnout mode, the body will favor cortisol, causing progesterone levels to take a nose dive. If you’ve been dealing with a mother of a period cycle, moodiness, exhaustion, or IBS, your estrogen to progesterone balance may be off.
I know a lot of women feel awkward talking about their periods and pooping isn’t the sexiest of subjects, but as a women’s health dietitian menstrual cycles and bowel movements are just another day at the office! You deserve to feel good in your body all month long and not talking about anything that gets in the way of that is only a disservice to women. Let’s take a step towards breaking the stigma and talk about the period poops today!
Today, I’m sharing my go to 💚green smoothie recipe for regulating hormones. I love it because it is full of magnesium, antioxidants, probiotics, and omega 3s. The protein and fat provide balance that helps you stabilize blood sugar and keep you fuller longer. It’s also a great source of fiber that feeds good bacteria in the gut that supports immune function, mood, & hormone balance.
Listen up ladies. 👂
You are not being crazy when you give your mansplaining coworker a piece of your mind the day your period starts.😠 You are not irrational for telling that guy on Tinder to STFU for giving an opinion no one asked for while dealing with PMS.😒 You are not being unreasonable or illogical. Your bullshit threshold has just reached its limit and you no longer have the patience to deal with it! ❌
If you want to manage burnout symptoms, you have to address the fertility pathway.

It’s all connected babe! So if you want to have a better menstrual cycle, happy hormones, and feel good in your body, you have to address stress, sleep, and movement!
When we talk about managing burnout symptoms, we have to address the fertility pathway. Fertility is a sign of SYSTEMIC health and wellbeing. It’s not just about trying to put a bun in the oven! Rather than adding more shit to your list of things to do, I’m here to talk about how you can heal by adding nutrition to your plate.
What and how you eat is an essential component of helping the body synthesize and regulate hormones and reduce stress. Supporting the process with a balanced plate is key! It doesn't have to be complicated. Keep it simple and use the following as a guide.
If you’re new to a non diet approach to living or struggling with body image or body respect, you might be going crazy with all the people talking diets around you. What you are willing to expose your energy to is very important and that includes diet talk. This can be really impactful on your confidence and the way you view yourself.
We have all been conditioned to split foods into two categories: good or bad and in doing so we begin to associate ourselves as either good or bad if we eat those foods. Maybe you told your co-worker how bad you were at lunch for eating a cupcake or how good you were because you did not have a cupcake. Foods don’t have moral value! They do not engender right or wrong.
The first meeting of the Woman Up Wellness Book Club book took place in August! I started this as a fun way for women in my private Facebook group to connect with each other and have discussions related to food freedom, self care, and well being. Since it is summer, we decided to kick things off with a page-turning, fictional novel, Dietland by Sarai Walker. As described on the author’s website, “Dietland is a bold, original, and funny debut novel that takes on the beauty industry, gender inequality, and our weight loss obsession—from the inside out, and with fists flying.” Read on for my review and insights from the book.
Quick question: When you’re out to dinner and you’re feeling full, are you able leave that last, lonely meatball on a plate by itself? Or do you insist on eating it despite your fullness? Leaving that meatball is hard, man. I know!
This one is for all the people out there who have been called or thought of as unhealthy based on BMI. If you’re not a white dude, it just won’t work for you. Yet it’s still used as a health barometer for EVERYONE...go figure.
You have everything you need with abundance mindset. Here’s how flipping our lizard brain chatter can help you find food freedom.
Hormones are where it's at! Can't stress it enough here. Women are not taught the basics of hormonal balance. Eating to support those little buggers can turn you from bitch to boss bitch! No joke. You wanna be a boss bitch today? How you eat and what you eat informs your hormonal balance. Our hormones are tied to our stress, which is tied to our appetite, which is tied to the rest of the way we function - think PMS, mood, weight, inflammation, stress, gut function, general happiness.
What is one food that you crave? I crave chocolate right before my period. I think many of you might have the same craving. For the longest time I just did not understand the logic behind this craving. Not understanding led to my feeling like I couldn't control myself around chocolate - like it was MY problem. It wasn't until I learned the mechanism behind the craving that I started to be able to handle them in a more positive way.
While CBD is all the rage right now, your nutrition is super important in determining your body’s ability to signal properly. Here’s the thing, CBD is great for treating acute and chronic situations. But your nutrition plays a key role in preventing chronic illness and supporting that ECD system’s neuro pathway.
If you are thinking of starting a GLP-1 medication this year, here are the four non-negotiables I recommend having in place before your fill a prescription.
